Find What Fits, Keep It Flexible

Curriculum resources should support your homeschool – not the other way around. These flexible, neurodivergent-friendly tools offer structure when you need it and breathing room when you don’t.

Curriculum Resources That Work for Real-Life Homeschooling

Choosing curriculum resources can feel like a full-time job, especially when you’re homeschooling neurodivergent kids with unique needs and shifting interests. However, over the years, I’ve found a few platforms I keep coming back to – flexible, creative, and practical tools that actually work for real families.

Whether you’re planning a deep-dive unit, searching for hands-on activities, or just need something quick for a low-energy day, these resources offer structure without the stress. From Scootle and Twinkl to TPT and Simply Homeschool, there’s something here for every learning style and stage.

A young boy with long blonde hair, wearing a red Panasonic racing shirt, practices handwriting at a wooden table. He traces lowercase letters on a worksheet with a black marker, while an uppercase alphabet guide and a laminated alphabet chart are visible nearby on the table.

Scootle

I discovered Scootle earlier this year while putting together my boys’ next two-year homeschool plan. When I searched for aviation – a current obsession in our house – I was blown away by the range of resources available, over 16,000 and counting. From interactive flight simulators to real-world STEM projects, it felt like finding a treasure chest of learning tools.

Scootle is a free online resource hub that helps Australian homeschoolers access high-quality, curriculum-aligned learning tools. It’s packed with interactive activities, videos, images, and open-ended tools to make lessons more engaging and meaningful. It’s become a staple in our homeschool toolkit, and I’ve bookmarked it for future deep dives into all the topics my boys want to explore.

What You’ll Find on Scootle

  • Interactive Multimedia Resources – hands-on learning.
  • Audio, Photos, and Videos – to bring lessons to life.
  • Open-Ended Tools – for creating custom learning activities.
  • Assessment Tools – to track progress.
  • Work Samples and Units of Work – for inspiration and planning.

Why Homeschoolers Love Scootle

Scootle makes it easy to find quality, curriculum-aligned resources by subject, year level, or specific content descriptions. It’s a great way to keep your homeschool on track with national standards for English, maths, science, and history.

Personalised Learning Paths

You can also create personalised learning paths – custom sequences of resources that match your child’s unique learning journey. These paths can be accessed anywhere, at any time, using a unique PIN, without the hassle of logins. You can even export them as worksheets, checklists, or assessment tasks – perfect for tracking progress and reporting.

How to Access Scootle for Homeschooling

Once your child is registered for homeschooling in NSW, you can set up a Scootle account for access to digital learning resources.

To request an account, just send an email to the Home Schooling Unit at homeschooling@nesa.nsw.edu.au with the following details:
Parent’s name
Home address
Registered child’s name

Once they’ve confirmed your child’s registration, you’ll receive a follow-up email with your Scootle login details.
