Gift of the Earth

The name “doTERRA” is Latin for “gift of the earth”. This gift was created in the Spring of 2008 by a group of health-care and business professionals who were on a mission to bring essential oils to the world. Their goal was introduce an exceptional standard of essential oils that would appeal to all people – from those who were completely new to oils to those considered experts in the field.

Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade (CPTG)

The first step in this vision was to establish a standard of quality that was unheard of in the essential oil industry. In fact, there hadn’t been one prior. doTERRA’s mission was to commit to only offering the highest quality, purest essential oils on earth. This commitment led to the creation of the Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade (CPTG) standard.

This testing protocol, CPTG, ensures that every oil doTERRA sells has been put through the highest standard of rigorous and thorough testing. When you purchase a doTERRA essential oil you can be confident that it has the highest quantity of active beneficial constituents and is free of contaminants and adulterations.

It Starts at the Source

“When plants are grown in optimal soil, temperature, and climate, they produce a higher quality essential oil – just as nature intended.”

doTERRA understands that the most powerful, potent essential oils are those that are grown in the environment best suited to that species. In fact potency begins with the plant itself. The chemical composition of the same plant will actually vary when grown in different environments. With this in mind doTERRA work with a global network of farmers who know intimately the process of growing plants for essential oils. They ensure that the plant is taken care of properly and harvested at the proper stage.

Corporate Social Responsibility

One of the things I love most about doTERRA is their commitment to corporate social responsibility. And they don’t just pay it lip service either. Two fabulous initiatives that have come out of this are Co-Impact Sourcing and the Healing Hands Foundation.

Co-Impact Sourcing

In order to maintain the purity and potency and consistency of their oils doTERRA uses a global network or artisans to provide the raw materials. This also enables them to make a positive difference in the lives of farmers, harvesters, and distillers who contribute to doTERRA’s oil production.

With over 100 essential oils in its product line, doTERRA sources its oils from over 100 countries – more than half which would be considered developing countries. To ensure that small scale farmers and harvesters in disadvantaged areas are treated ethically, doTERRA has introduced an initiative called Co-Impact Sourcing.

Co-Impact Sourcing helps create coalitions of growers and distillers that are able to work directly with doTERRA effectively cutting out the “middle man”. Thus, local communities are receiving fair and timely payments that not only support their crops and harvest, but also have a direct, and immediate, impact on the community as well. doTERRA works with these coalitions to provide the resources, tools and training necessary to ensure a long-lasting partnership.

To Sum Up

I feel like I’ve only scratched the surface of why I decided to align myself with doTERRA. Personally I was drawn to a company who had heart. Who not only said they would do something but went out and did it. Words are meaningless, and in today’s corporate driven world thrown about thoughtlessly and meaninglessly. doTERRA is the new way and I’m excited to be a part of it.
